Less than 24 hours in #Rwanda, & my heart is already so full & so inspired! Thank you, @careorg , for inviting me to witness the fruits your innovation & empowerment. (If you don't know abt #CARE 's work globally, check them out online: they transform lives by helping women & girls learn new skills which lead to financial freedom, personal confidence, & gender equality. ? They help the men too, but they know by focusing on women (who are usually the most economically in need), they can truly transform not just the woman & her family, but also the community at large.)
Today I got to meet Brigitte, a member of @careorg 's #VillageSavingsAndLoan program. In 5 years, Brigitte has gone from no access to money or a voice in her home to owning 1000 chickens who produce 850 eggs a day plus running a vegetable farm- she even has 3 employees! And a far happier marriage.
We also met some of the amazing students at #CARE's #SafeSchool4Girls who, even at middle school age, are learning to save thru a similar savings & loan program- & therefore learning to DREAM, cuz you have to know what you're saving for. In this setting, life-saving conversations are also being had about gender equity & family planning. It's an unbelievably beautiful program.
Finally, we got to meet a husband & wife who have graduated from #CARE's #JourneysOfTransformation program : with the help of that 18 week course, they have moved their marriage out of violence & into true partnership. The candor & courage with which they share their story is staggering.
@careorg is changing lives here in #Rwanda. I'm awed to get to witness it- & grateful to get to learn by their example. Can't wait to see what tmrw brings! #FightWithCare ??❤️??❤️??❤️??❤️
