Photo by @jimrichardsonng Red deer stags are the iconic symbol of life in the Scottish Highlands. They can also be extremely friendly as Colin Murdoch at Reraig Forest Estate made clear to me. The scene high above Loch Carron was beautiful, dramatic — and a little surreal. Many estates feed deer, especially in Winter, and Colin takes visitors up on the hill to see them. Deer are controversial, too, as their numbers have grown and had more impact on forest restoration.
