This week’s #RoleModelMonday is the one and only Maya Angelou. The legendary American poet, singer, and civil rights activist started many progressive social ideas that would later give birth to widespread political activism. With a love for the arts, Maya grew up as a dancer and singer herself, composing beautiful song lyrics that live on today. Her most popular novel of 1969, “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” recalled her childhood in the Jim Crow South and was one of the first autobiographies by a 20th-century black woman to reach a wide general readership. Angelou was keenly involved in the Civil Rights Movement and worked closely with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, teaching positive virtues, forgiveness and love. Maya & Dr. King's legacy live on. ❤️
