Ok a quick @QLS lesson in the “crossover 80s movement”—-I feel like ALOT of black artists caught slack for trying to break on through to the other side in the 80s: #TheJacksons #Prince #LionelRitchie leaving #TheCommodores, #Cameo whittling down to just a trio——#JeffreyOsbourne post LTD....so many to name. It’s like that last scene in #ThelmaAndLousie: jump that mountain, or die trying. Many attempted. Few Succeeded. Most were roasted if they made it. Next to #KoolAndTheGang I can’t name another act who defied the odds and got to reinvent themselves FOUR times over. I’m talking about #ThePointerSisters. Out the gate as a mind blowing #AndrewsSistas takeoff—- doing background work for so many in the Bay Area (#Sylvester #BettyDavis), to meshing in 40s style jazz w their fonk on the first few albums, to a more sophisticated soul on a few offerings, to straight up country (first soul act to win a Grammy for country & play #GrandOleOpry) to then reinvent themselves w a Springsteen offering for the rock crowd, to then hit paydirt releasing an album in 83 one single short from tying #Thriller for most singles from one album to land top 40. They are the Queens Of Pop! Oh this was a dream interview. I didn’t even know my first crush #BonniePointer had rejoined the group again! (respect to Vanity et al, but Bonnie was the ONLY human who could fluster Don on #SoulTrain) they enlisted their brother Fritz (who joins us) to help put their #FairytaleThePointerSistersFamilyHistory book together. And we go through it all! A very fun #QuestloveSupreme!
