In 1948, David ‘Chim’ Seymour, travelled to the battlegrounds that Robert Capa had photographed during the Battle of Monte Cassino four years earlier. His images of Italian cities still in ruins, maimed children in varying stages of recuperation, and the collection of unexploded ordinance underline the long-lasting impact of the conflict on the Italian people. These images are from Seymour's broader post-war work, which explored the depth of the devastation that the conflict had wrought upon the peoples, and especially the youth, of Europe.

To mark the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Monte Cassino this week, we look back at Capa and Seymour's work today on magnumphotos.com. Link in bio.
