Somalia-based extremist group al-Shabab claimed responsibility for a deadly assault in #Kenya's capital on Jan. 15, the Associated Press reports, sending people fleeing in panic as explosions and heavy gunfire reverberated through #Nairobi’s Westlands neighborhood. The hotel complex that came under attack is less than two kilometers from Westgate Mall, where the group’s militants killed dozens of people in a 2013 siege, and is in what is considered one of the most secure areas of the city.
