MY DIET & NUTRITION HABITS Part 2: Food Philosophies. I have two main food philosophies: 1. Food is fuel. 2. Food should be enjoyed. FOOD IS FUEL: To start off, I am not a vegetarian. I am not a vegan. I eat all the animals. I don’t think a meal constitutes a meal unless there is a protein included. Protein is essential, especially as an athlete; it is the building block of our bodies. That being said, I think it’s important to eat CLEAN protein. The meat industry has developed into something quite disgusting. Choosing grass-fed meat, free-range poultry/eggs, wild-caught fish, etc, can make a big impact on your health. If you don’t want to/ cannot invest in high quality protein, then you may actually be better off being a vegetarian. For those of you on a budget, eggs and egg whites are low in cost & an incredible source of protein. Second, I avoid all processed food. I grocery shop every other day, choose whole natural foods, and make most of my meals. My diet is based on vegetables, high quality protein, rice & oats, sweet potatoes, some fruit, and some healthy fats. I avoid dairy and gluten. I buy mostly organic. Organic is more expensive, but I think health is worth investing in. My body is my livelihood. I typically start off my day with a smoothie (post morning training), then move on to solid foods. Smoothies are great because I can get a lot of nutrients in quickly, especially if I have another training session in the afternoon. FOOD SHOULD BE ENJOYED: Yes, food should be thought of and treated like fuel. But there’s also much more to it than that. Food brings people together. It is a rich part of cultures and traditions. It generates joy. I think it’s important to eat things you like, to share meals with people, and to ultimately enjoy it! I find foods that I like & fit well with my nutritional needs, and I stick with those. I don’t mind eating the same things over and over, especially if they are things that I love! I also frequently share meals or eat out with with friends. I’ll never be above Chipotle. Feel free to ask questions.

MY DIET & NUTRITION HABITS

Part 2: Food Philosophies.

I have two main food philosophies:
1. Food is fuel.
2. Food should be enjoyed.

FOOD IS FUEL:

To start off, I am not a vegetarian.

FOOD SHOULD BE ENJOYED:

Yes, food should be thought of and treated like fuel. But there’s also much more to it than that. Food brings people together. It is a rich part of cultures and traditions. It generates joy.
