“In a word: surreal.” That’s how @sebmodak described being chosen as this year’s @nytimestravel 52 Places Traveler. “I’m starting to think the sheer scope of what I’m doing won’t hit me until I make landfall in the first destination and start reporting.” For the second year, we decided to send one #traveler to all of our 52 destinations on our Places to Go List. Sebastian will start in Puerto Rico, the No. 1 spot on the list this year and continue on to destinations like Iran, the Setouchi Islands and Huntsville, Alabama. In a couple ways, our traveler has a background uniquely suited for this gig. He was born in the United States to a Colombian mother and an Indian father, but moved to #HongKong when he was 2 years old and continued to move every few years. To Sebastian, #travel is all about immersing yourself in the unfamiliar. “There’s always something to learn from someone else, from somewhere else,” he said. @trittscamera took this photo of Sebastian.
