#SpeakingInDance | “I tried to be a good male dancer,” said the @lesballetstrockadero dancer @lzethan. “It took me a while to figure out that’s not what I’m good at.” Long, a member of the all-male #ballet company performing through Dec. 30 at the @thejoycetheater, prefers to dance ballerina roles like this variation from “Harlequinade.” As Long said: “I want to explore the best of myself. It’s not just about the movement. It’s from top to bottom.” For this lively, highly virtuosic solo, Raffaele Morra, the company’s ballet master, said, “You almost need to throw yourself in and hope that everything goes right because you don’t have time to think.” But the technique doesn't stress out Long, who trained in China in the Vaganova method. “It’s very charming, very youthful, very naive,” he told the @ニューヨーク・タイムズ writer @giadk. “Just be happy: That’s it.” @adamgolfer made this video for #SpeakingInDance, our weekly series exploring the world of #dance.
