Photo by @catherinekarnow // It’s such a crazy story how I met Luciano ten years ago. I was scouting for my Italy Photo Workshop, soon to be its ninth year (May 8 - 17, 2019), and looking for all sorts of interesting places and subjects I could incorporate into a workshop of variety, depth, beauty, #amusement and #charm. I was on a busy road outside Viterbo with my producer, when this cute little vintage Fiat 500 zipped by us. “Oh”, I exclaimed, “we should find a car club with those cute Cinquecentos - wonder if that guy knows one, let’s ask him!” We sped up to come alongside him and madly gestured for him to pull over. At first he looked terrified, but when he saw it was just us two girls, he acquiesced and pulled over, getting out of the car to greet us. He seemed a bit confused as to what a photo workshop was, but he was indeed a car club member and gave us the president’s contact info. Then he invited us to see his other two #Cinquecentos in his garage nearby. This photo was taken in his cave of a garage - in fact a cave dating to Etruscan times, he told us. That was almost a decade ago, and now Luciano and I are dear friends. Every year he and the local Cinquecento Club meet us and our workshop guests for a car parade through a nearby ancient village.
