I've gathered you all here because iguana tell you about our work to save the critically endangered Fiji banded iguana. San Diego Zoo Global is helping with efforts in Fiji to maintain a healthy assurance population, raising hatchlings until they are large enough to avoid predators (a process known as “headstarting”), and then releasing the juvenile iguanas into their island habitats. Our researchers currently make an average of 2-3 trips to Fiji each year, visiting about 6 islands per trip. We also manage the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan (SSP) for #FijiBandedIguanas, and are involved in various research projects to ensure the long-term survival of the species. #EndExtinction #IguanasOfInstagram #IguanaLove
