Day Five of the Taronga 2018 CEO challenge saw the team embark on a wildlife safari in Ranthambore National Park, one of the largest and most renowned national parks in northern India. The park is located in the Sawai Madhopur district of south-eastern Rajasthan, about 130km from Jaipur.

This park is an impressive reminder of the great jungles that once enveloped central India and is a rich biodiversity hot spot. It was one of the first nine national parks to be brought under Project Tiger in 1973, the largest wildlife conservation project of its time. The 22 species of mammals listed here include the leopard, sloth bear, hyena, jungle cat, caracal, sambar, chital, nilgai, Indian hare, wild boar and mongoose, as well as its prime attraction – the endangered Bengal tiger. The CEO Challenge team were lucky enough to spot one of these stunning cats while on safari!

The creation of India’s tiger reserves in the 1970s helped to stabilise population numbers, however, in recent years poaching has once again put the Bengal tiger at risk.
