? It’s not easy to sum up the path of a historical brand like Emporio Armani. It takes the detachment of time and the love of the man who created it. Accordingly, the day after the runway-event in a hangar at Milan’s Linate Airport – and 37 years after the opening of the first Emporio – we asked King George in person to give us his account.
‘In the early ’80s, I realised I could address a potentially very wide audience that wasn’t the same public of my prêt-à-porter. This gave me the intuition to propose an easy and accessible product for younger people. In those days, denim was the main part of my offer. No designer had ever thought of doing jeans. It was perceived as a foolhardy choice, and I was highly criticised for it.
