“So, do you feel any wiser?” I get this question a few times on my birthday every year. This year I realized my reflex was to answer, No, not really” but if I’m honest that’s not even a little bit true. 365 days, 365 nights, thousands of new experiences, conversations, celebrations, holidays, work, travel, family, friends new and old, once in a lifetime meals and even more mundane ones. Life altering lessons, both brutal and and blissful, the quiet triumphs and painful failures all intricately sewn into the fabric of my being like a well worn sweater with the number 2018 emblazened across the back. One more year on this crazy spinning rock, with the gift of getting to witness my two children settle in to the people they are becoming. To get show up for the people I love and be lucky enough to be on the receiving end of that same intangible galvanizing gift. All these incredible, often uneventful relentless moments 1000 times over, but If I’m being perfectly honest, the bottom line is...No matter how many experiences I have, what I accomplish, accolades I receive, hair cut I get, lipstick color I wear, or clothes I buy this little girl is there in the back of my mind screaming OMFG! THIS is your actual life? Holy sh** are you kidding? This is SO friggin COOL! She still freaks out every time I board a plane for Paris, every time I make it home in time to read bedtime stories and goodnight kisses, or walk through the door of our home, one not only just built on love, but dedication to the art form I adore most. Absolutely nothing is lost on her! This is the wisdom this year has gifted me, to stop telling this little girl to be quiet, that she shouldn’t be amazed and astounded all the damn time. Because you know what? She’s right! Even when life sucks, it’s still REALLY FRIGGIN COOL! I am grateful for this year and every year I’ve been lucky enough to share with the people I love, doing WHAT I love. So this birthday I’m toasting to the girl in this photo who was seriously FEELIN IT!
