A yoga studio was shot up yesterday in Tallahassee, Florida @hotyogatallahassee . 3 people died (including the gunman who took his own life) and 5 were injured. I remember a time when schools, churches, synagogues, mosques, temples, nightclubs, stores, homes and workplaces were not places where we needed to fear for our lives.
I remember a time when people didn’t immediately reach for firearms in anger. I remember when a bar fight was a fist fight, not a gun fight. I remember a time before people said the only answer was to have armed security everywhere. I remember when a school shooting was a national outrage, not just a blip on the nightly news. I believe we are better than this. We should not resign to this being the new normal. This is not ‘Ok’ with me. I voted this year for candidates who say they will work hard to bring about a reduction of gun violence in America and I will continue to vote everyday of the year through my music voice, the dollars I spend, businesses i support or avoid and organizations I connect with who share this goal. And I will be relentless in holding those I voted accountable for their promises and my support if they win and if they do not I will do the same for the winners. There has been so much killing lately. I know our country is so much better than this. Today I choose not to send thoughts and prayers or a moment of silence, but my love - in the form of my personal commitment to work hard daily to bring about a nation free from the fear of gun violence. It is a pollution who’s time has come to end in the same way that our country has changed it’s attitude towards smoking and the tobacco industry, we must do the same about the gun industry who dump hundreds of millions of dollars into buying off politicians, keeping their profits high while our families, children and neighbors pay the price for their greed. @changetheref @everytown #stayhuman #gunsense #vote #yoga #flowerinthegun
