The Angolan skies are dark. Completely pitch black. Outside of the cities almost every small village we pass through on our over nighter trip from Lubango - Luanda wasn’t connected. No lights. No connection. No electricity consumption. As Angola pushes to develop and connect it’s population, process its’ natural resources and develop industries / jobs there is increasing pressure on the electricity grid. The need for more energy sky rockets and requires more dams - currently there are proposals for hydro systems on the majority of the rivers flowing from the country’s Bie Plateau. Free flowing rivers are under threat here, but who are to come here and say it’s wrong. What’s the answer? How do you preach sustainability to a country who the majority of its’ population have very little?
