“Sarafand was a British Army base during World War II and became a major complex for the Israeli Defense Forces in 1948. It included Bahad 12, which was the main training camp for the women in the military. I photographed these women at the shooting range and on dusty desert maneuvers and was surprised one day to see an improvised fashion show on the parade ground at the end of the training period. It was a refreshing, colorful and sexy show to the scores of young women dressed in monotonous khaki. I was never able to find out whether the original initiative came from the recruits themselves.” - Micha Bar-Am
