Today, I helped get out the vote at UC Irvine. I literally spoke to students and got them to get to the mobile voting poll on their campus. One girl who I stopped was anxious to vote and didn’t understand she could bring a cheat sheet of who she wanted to vote for into the booth. She didn’t know all the things to vote on so she wasn’t going to vote. I told her to ask someone more politically active then her whose views she agrees with then double check to see if resonates with her. At the end of the day of volunteering she came up to me with her list of who she was voting for and thanked me for empowering her to vote, and for reminding her that her voice and opinions do count. It made my heart sing to know that I encouraged that young woman to step outside her comfort zone, to ask for help and then to take action.
