Until a few years ago, it was believed that chameleons changed colors because of special pigment-changing organelles in their skin. A new study shows that the two top layers of their bodies are coated in nanocrystals that can be manipulated by light to change temperature and color. The more light that hits their color-changing wonders’ skin, the more excited the crystals are, making beautiful colors of yellow, red, and green. ?: @australiazoo
