These guys literally risk their lives to defecate, which is why it only happens every eight days. Using the bathroom means venturing out of the treetops and down onto the forest floor where they become twice as vulnerable to depredation by jaguars and harpy eagles. Luckily, sloths have an extremely slow metabolism and a diet low in calories meaning long waits to use the bathroom aren’t an issue.
