✨HAPPY COMMUNITY DAY✨ Sorry I haven’t been posting much, this is a busy month for me traveling to tournaments and organizing my life a bit. I’ll be in San Francisco this week then Oregon by the week after and today is also the prerelease for one of my most anticipated sets for Pokémon. Lost Thunder is the biggest set to date, bigger than Aquapolis or Skyridge which were a couple other favorites of mine ? but anywaysss~ ☄️? I know I already emphasized on this at the beginning on the month with the Draconid shower (love that name so much, a few on my online character’s names have been influenced by Draconid showers) and anyone who has watched my streams knows I can go on about my love and curiosity for astronomy for literally HOURS, my favorite thing to do as a kid was read encyclopedias on animals and our solar system, since then I haven’t changed much as you know, but what I really love about this event in pkmnGO is how the Meteor Mash Metagross community day lined up with one of my favorite meteor displays of the year. October in general is just a great month for sky shows. The first and second to last weeks of this month are when Orionids are active every year following the Aquarids we see in May which are both meteor showers created with debris left behind by Halley’s comet, usually starting 7th/8th and peaking around October 20/21. It’s so cool because up to 20 meteors are visible every hour, AND if we were seeing Haley’s comet we could see up to around 90 per hour roughly! But sadly we won’t get that chance until 2061 ;^; My trick to finding them is looking for Orion in the sky first (Orionids are names after Orion) it’s an easy constellation to spot since his belt is three stars together in a line and the eye usually picks that pattern up when you’re stargazing. Sorry for the lengthy gush over these things ♡ if you watch the sky tonight be safe, bring a friend, dress warm, be patient, and most importantly enjoy yourself ? A good way to remember when meteor showers are is by month: January: Quadrantids April: Lyrids May: Era Aquarids August: Perseids October: Draconids and Orionids November: Leonids December: Geminids and Ursids (which are my favorite)
