What does American mean? Captain America, for instance, is a blonde, blue-eyed, able-bodied white male. But he fails to represent the mosaic of ethnicity and culture that paints the true portrait of our nation.

This weekend, I witnessed what America truly looks like, rising up within the climbing community. @colorthecrag represented people of color who are no longer silent, who are showing up and demanding to be seen. In the four days of panel discussions, clinics, and camaraderie, these climbers found their voices in each other.

To be completely honest, I felt intimidated at the beginning of the @colorthecrag event. As a biracial person who grew up with privilege, I was unsure of my place or how I fit in to the conversation. I sat back, listened, learned, and came away with a sense of connectivity that helped me to open up and feel included as well. I am grateful to everyone who shared their stories and allowed me to reflect on how the true colors of America need be seen ??
