A caravan of Central American migrants amassed at a border barrier on the Guatemala-Mexico international bridge in Ciudad Hidalgo, Mexico, on Oct. 19. The #migrants were met by a phalanx of police with riot shields, the Associated Press reports. About 50 managed to push their way through before officers unleashed pepper spray and the rest retreated; at least six police officers were reportedly injured. Mexico has said those with passports and valid visas would be let in immediately, and that anyone who decides to cross illegally and are caught would be detained and deported. President Trump has made it clear to Mexico that he is monitoring its response, the AP adds. A day earlier, he threatened to close the U.S. border if Mexico let the migrants advance.
