Few people imagine him this way, but when he wasn’t writing, he would refuge in the back of the garden, in the woodshop, building little houses for the squirrels or tools for the neighbors. Their friends – the sculptor Alexander Calder, actors and tennis companions Dustin Hoffman and Mia Farrow – remember him in faded jeans, t-shirt, and an old hat. Roxbury is not just a tiny dot on the map, 50 miles from New York. It's a getaway for Manhattan's artists and intellectuals. Nestled in ten thousand square kilometers of protected forests, current residents include author Gay Talese, the creator of ‘Sex and the City’ Candace Bushnell, composer Stephen Sondheim, and venerable director of Vanity Fair Graydon Carter. They are looking for peace, like Marilyn and Arthur, they want to be nobody, no flash, just the sound of the wind. Miller is buried there, next to his third wife, photographer Inge Morath.
