What does age 18-year-old girlhood look like around the world? For #DayoftheGirl, @nytgender gave young women photographers an assignment: show us what 18 looks like in your community. The result is #ThisIs18 — a celebration of girlhood across oceans and cultures. “Eighteen is that little gray spot between adulthood and childhood. You're still a little kid, but the world is like, 'You're a grown up.’” - Hélène Françoise Philippe. Shown in this photograph, @honeymoonsupply is in her first year at CalArts, where she studies fine art and animation. Her mother emigrated from Guadalajara, Mexico and her dad emigrated from Nassau, Bahamas. The photographer Arleigh Haskal @aarleighhaskal is a Los Angeles-based photographer and high school student who enjoys being with her friends, swimming, and playing the guitar.
