Bold cutouts of the letters ‘M’ ‘I’ and ‘U’ made for a formidable, unmistakeable backdrop at @Miu Miu. As the crowds swelled, bustling for the front row, some of the models that would walk the show had their faces emblazoned onto this playfully outré lettering. The beat dropped from the intro music, the lights went up and the sound of Prince tinkling the ivories, from the recently unveiled, late maestro's 'Piano and Microphone' sessions set up a spare, jazzy flavour. This was a weightless biosphere in which the clothes could shine. First note: shoes. The exaggerated embellishment of the last few seasons was eschewed for a block solid platform lace-up heel, often in satin to delightfully soften any natural glam-rock clomp. Second: the hair. From shaved heads to over-fertilised mullet with a little bit of Louise Brooks fringe in between. Third: the frocks. Snake effect skirts, outsized rose detailing and a final gold shimmer. The Miu Miu woman for SS19 came away fully satiated.
