This performance is called “Gojinjodaiko”. Nafunemachi, Wajima is the birthplace of Gojinjodaiko. In 1577, Kenshin Uesugi shogunate tried to attack Nafunemachi. Villagers didn’t have enough weapons, so they scared away off the enemies by their performance which hit the drums and put on devils masks in the midnight. The enemies were surprised at this performance and escaped in fear and trembling. Then this performance is keeping for conveying thanks to God. Gojinjodaiko had overseas performances. Someday you could be able to see it in your city.
御陣乗太鼓と呼ばれるこのパフォーマンスは上杉謙信が1577年に名舟町を攻撃しようとした時に、武器の少ない町民達が彼らを追い返すために夜にお面をつけて太鼓を叩いて脅したことから始まっているのだとか。以来、氏神様に捧げるものとして輪島市名舟町に受け継がれています。
