#10featuredteachers it’s Friday and time to meet #Teacher 5, we are half way done and I have so many stories that need to be told and funded! But this one spoke to me because communicating through ART is what I do!! “I’m Alex Hayes, an art teacher at a Title 1 school in the most diverse square mile in America- Clarkston, GA! Clarkston is where I work and live. It’s an amazing little pocket just outside of ATL, home to refugees and immigrants from around the world. I teach 600 students art every week- students from Sudan, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Nepal, Congo, Iraq, etc. My students speak between 30-40 different languages, so I have the privilege of teaching the language we all speak- art. It’s my second year teaching and my second year at this school and I am trying to build a thriving art program. I need more art supplies so my students can explore a variety of art mediums! I also need more books about artists for K-5 and some supplies for my 4-5th grade soccer team (practice just started but I had 36 girls last week) !!
