100 years ago today, Katmai (@katmainpp) was first established to protect the wonders of the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes -- a spectacular 40-square mile, 100- to 700-foot deep ash flow that was deposited by the Novarupta Volcano in 1912. Over the past century, Katmai National Park in #Alaska has been expanded to include sweeping coastlines, vistas that feed the imagination and creatures that remind us what it is to be wild. Today the park is still famous for volcanoes, but it’s also world-renowned for brown bears, pristine waterways with abundant fish and a rugged coastline.
