Photograph by @andyparkinsonphoto/@thephotosociety Bengal tiger road block – Granted, there are worse problems to have. When the call comes over the radio that some tigers have been spotted a few miles away and then, as you’re on route your vehicle gets stuck because there’s bloody tiger lying in the middle of the road! ? Not only a tiger but one that seems intent on demonstrating just how much like a house cat they really are by playfully rolling, stretching and kicking it’s feet in the air. Lying there it seemed to delight in its own mischief, as if trying to tempt the unwary into an ill-advised belly rub. Anyone who has ever lived with cats, as I have, know how quickly a belly rub can turn into a rabbit punch though with claws sheathed such playfulness rarely leads to discomfort. Now expand the size and power of that house cat into adult tiger size and you’ll quickly begin to imagine that such belly rubs are generally not such a good idea, no matter how playful or innocent the expression or how tempting the belly might look! We never did get to see the other tigers that morning but we did nonetheless leave with big smiles on our faces, and all our limbs intact! If you’d like to experience sights like this then I’m leading a tiger tour to India in January 2020 to the place in India with the highest density of tigers, Bandhavgarh National Park.
