Growing up, I was a very average student. I didn’t particularly enjoy studying in primary school, and wasn’t very motivated to work hard for PSLE because of my school affiliation (I was in an all girls convent school, St. Anthony’s for 10 years ?), and lets be real.. I was only 12! . Even through my Sec sch years, I was weak in subjects like Math and Mandarin. The beautiful thing was - my parents never pressured me or punished me for failing tests or having a shitty report card. They never compared me to other kids - instead, they gave me lots of support and encouragement, and believed that I would excel at something on my own. Surprisingly, I rose to the occasion and performed really well in my O Levels, and chose to pursue a diploma in Mass Communications at @ngeeannpoly, which surprised a lot of my relatives and family friends. It was still considered slightly unconventional to opt for a polytechnic education. They asked... “why don’t you go to a good JC? They will accept you what! With this kind of result... go poly for what?” . Fact is... I knew what I wanted to do. I attribute a lot of my success to the way I was brought up, and the positive influence my family had on me. I love what I do now, and I’ve never looked back and regretted any of my educational choices in life. . If there’s anything I hope for, is for kids nowadays to enjoy their childhood, to grow up in a positive environment that isn’t shrouded by academic stress. To be allowed to pursue what they want, because they will find success in their own way and anything is possible once you set your mind to it. Grades don’t define what your earning power is in the future, or who you are as a person. There is a life beyond grades ♥️ @lifebeyondgrades #lifebeyondgrades #morethananumber
