Man, I got asked some really tough questions at my @TheSquickerwonkers panel at @DragonCon last weekend. I’m still pondering some of them and wondering what my answer really is, because I didn’t feel I answered well at the panel. So...some follow-up thoughts: 1. How do you juggle multiple careers and responsibilities and still stay creative?: As my workload and responsibilities have multiplied exponentially in the past couple years, I have had to match that growth with exponential discipline. The things I have had to be most disciplined about are sleep, rest, time off, spiritual nurturing and nutrition. Without discipline in those areas, I would have crashed and burned by now. I have no doubt. I have to go to bed early and get up early. I have to stop when I know it’s time to stop...even if I want to keep going. And I have to go, even when I’m tired and want nothing more than to stop. And I have to be in tune with myself enough to know which one it’s time for. 2. Do I have any advice for someone trying to get a book made?: If you want the book to be a market hit, first find out what publishers are currently looking for and write THAT. If you just want to write what’s in your heart, let go of the market results. This is the #1 thing I’ve learned. Gone are the days where publishers are just looking for good, incredibly written, compelling stories. Today, they are looking for marketable books. Those two things are not mutually exclusive, but they’re not mutually inclusive either. That’s what I’ve come up with so far. ??‍♀️. More to come if more thoughts come to mind! . ? by @mekanaloke
