QUICK CATCH-UP! Since #netneutrality has been repealed:
-ISPs have begun a dangerous media take-over (buying TV, film, and news companies to gain more control over how you use the web.)
-it was revealed that ISPs lobbied to kill net neutrality to the tune of one hundred million dirty “campaign contribution” dollars.
-ISPs began throttling videos, prioritizing content, and charging unjustified fees with no regulations to stop them.
-politicians from both left and right are demanding more censorship from big web platforms like Facebook and Google, and already succeeded in having protest video footage removed from the “free” internet
-it was proven that #AjitPai and the #FCC admitted that they lied when they claimed a “cyber attack” took down their website at the exact moment that pro net neutrality comments were flooding in pre-repeal
-despite 86% of Americans wanting net neutrality protections back, Big Cable funded more than two dozen front groups to send a letter to the HofR asking them NOT to overturn the FCC’s repeal.
-elderly people in California were robocalled en-masse and told that if SB 822 (healthy net neutrality legislation) passed, their cell phone bill would go up $30. An utter lie.
-SB 822 just passed in California with overwhelming bipartisan support!! (Despite robocalls targeting the elderly.)
Now it just has to pass in the Senate by midnight TONIGHT!! If it does, Cali will have the strongest net neutrality protections in the US and set a precedent for other states to follow. .
