Lilian Wyles was among the first police officers to take statements of sexual assaults from women and juveniles. She started her police career in 1919 as one of three sergeants in a temporary women-only patrol which covered Central London. The patrol received a lot of backlash from the public and male police officers. When the patrol was disbanded in 1922, she became a trailblazer in the establishment of women officers in the Metropolitan Police Services. She made sure women officers made it a priority to take statements from women in cases of sexual assault. Wyles’ is a reminder to always use your power and voice for those who feel powerless and voiceless. #inspirationwednesday
