"I always thought I was born—at least my mother always told me so—on August 22, 1898."—Alexander Calder. There has been a lasting confusion if Calder was born on July 22 or August 22. Even though his birth certificate states July 22, his family insisted on the latter date. The @CalderFoundation also researched the hand-written Birth Register, the official ledger of the Board of Health, and found the same July date—though on the Return of Births, it looks as if a mistake was made by the doctor. As for Calder, he celebrated both birthdays, as do we!
