What does it mean to photograph a cat? Does a cat understand representation? Can a cat recognize a picture? Artist #EladLassry pondered these questions as he created "Bengal" (2011). In his practice, Lassry often references the visual language of stock photography and advertising, while at the same time placing his photographs within frames, allowing the images to better register with the viewer as objects in their own right. On #WorldPhotographyDay, spend some time contemplating "Bengal": it’s a work that is vibrant and yet static, a cat that gazes from its frame, and yet does not return your gaze. ? #GuggenheimCollection #Guggenheim
