Video by @PaulNicklen // Moving like a freight train, this sperm whale broke along the surface, blow after blow, steadily making his way towards us. We anxiously waited to hear the echo location clicks as he approached. 40 feet...30 feet...20 feet and no clicks. I finally realized that this massive whale was sound asleep. At what felt like the last possible second, he woke up and dove down to avoid me as I sucked in to make myself as small possible to float above him - all the while trying to maintain the shot. I’ve always loved being in the presence of whales, and I couldn’t have asked for a more powerful first encounter to this species, the largest carnivore in the world to ever exist. The only thing that excites me more is having the chance to share incredible experiences like this with you. #FollowMe on @PaulNicklen to find out how you could join. #whale #ocean #explore #gratitude
