Turnout for the Unite the Right 2 rally of #whitenationalists near the White House on Aug. 12 was significantly lower than anticipated, at only a few dozen compared with the figure of 100 to 400 people noted on the permit application. The small group, which arrived by train from northern Virginia on Sunday afternoon, was far outnumbered by counter-protesters: more than 1,000 of them—including members of the anti-fascist group called antifa—gathered to oppose the demonstration, which was scheduled on the anniversary of the rally in #Charlottesville that turned deadly after a vehicle was rammed into a crowd of counter-protesters, killing Heather Heyer.
