Although he may be one of the smaller infants in OFI's baby nursery, Kuba has made a name for himself. His vigour and acrobatics are his hallmarks. “Active" is how his caregiver describes him! Kuba arrived at the OFI Care Centre in the summer of 2017. A Forestry Department Officer brought him in. According to the story, he was “found” by fishermen seven months earlier, and had been taken to the village near a palm oil plantation. Whether this story is true or not, we don’t know but it is suspicious that the orphan orangutan was confiscated from a village near a palm oil plantation as palm oil plantations are often where orangutans are killed as agricultural pests. It is likely that Kuba was forcibly removed from his mother after she was killed. After he was captured Kuba was kept as a pet, surviving on a diet of mainly rice, noodles and vegetables. Water and milk were given to him regularly, and thankfully, he arrived at OFI’s Care Centre robust. Little Kuba is OFI's Orangutan of the Month. | Image credit: @ofi_australia | If you would like your photo's featured by us please tag your images with #ofi_australia and we will credit you! ? _____________________________________________ ?
