After months of talking about it, @james_lucas and I finally got on the Diamond ?, a first out of many that day.

First time summiting a 14’er. First time placing gear, pumping out, and getting the screaming barfies at 13,500 feet. First time getting to see both sunrise and sunset in one long 22hr day ? First time crying on the hike out due to sheer exhaustion and hanger (just me, not James ?) (also I REALLY hate hiking down talus scree hills).

I knew climbing on the Diamond would be a learning experience but I wasn’t prepared for the severity of these lessons in discomfort. My optimism was truly tested; in fact, it failed completely. But now that I’m home and the only hiking I have to do is from my couch to the kitchen, I can honestly say I’m psyched for next time.

The Diamond is hard to access, logistically and physically challenging, and remotely beautiful. And that’s what makes you want it. Next time we will rap off Table Ledge though... getting lost on the Cable Route descent SUCKS!!! ??‍♀️❌?
