Photograph by @andyparkinsonphoto/@thephotosociety Mountain hare yawning – It would be impossible for me to fully articulate just how much I love working with these astonishing animals. Not only are they mesmerizingly beautiful, full of character and charm, endlessly confiding and quirky but they also live in some of the most spectacular and occasionally inhospitable parts of the UK. In winter the simple physical task of accessing their habitat in deep snow is challenging enough but it’s made even more so if you factor in the amount of camera equipment, food, water and clothing that I have to carry up as well to endure on the mountain for as long as I possibly can. It frequently fascinates me how often I will see others clamber to the top of the mountain to find these adorable creatures only to head back down again as soon as they’ve captured a half-decent image. For me I always try to maximise, to stay up there for as long as I physically can because the advantages to this are many-fold. Not only do I learn more about the hares and their habits I also learn about individual hares and their idiosyncrasies. The longer I wait the luckier I get as well as I’ve more chance of experiencing an unexpected encounter or noticing something that I’ve never noticed before. Either way it is working this way that allows me to produce images such as this so why don’t you come and join me for a day or two, maybe even four, I guarantee that you’ll have an experience that you’ll cherish for a lifetime. For more details just email me at [email protected] and I’ll tell you everything that you need to know so that hopefully one day soon you’ll be looking through your lens and something like this will be looking back!
