My five-year-old wrote this. She needed me to tell her each letter because she doesn’t know how to spell. She has no real idea what is happening in this country or what this sign really means. Yet, she is older than some of the kids currently sitting in court alone. She is older than many of the kids being ripped away from their families and thrown in detention centers or shipped to foster facilities across the country, when there is family out there who love them and want them. She is older than some of the kids currently lost in the system. Think of how you would feel as a parent and then think about how your child would feel. I don’t know if my children would ever recover. Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) is an organization that works to ensure that no child appears in immigration court alone without representation.
