I forgot to acknowledge yesterday the 30rh anniversary of what I feel is one of the most significant and greatest recordings to ever effect my life. @publicenemyFTP’s sophomore game changer #ItTakeANationOfMillionsToHoldUsBack. The viralness of this project the week it came out was like nothing I’ve ever witnesed. Literally every car/boom box blasting a song to the high heavens in the street. It effected me so much I quit my job making fries at the #BigAls burger at #Upenn—went on lunch break to listen to this album and just never came back. Seriously the entire summer of 88 I absorbed this album and knew THIS is what I was gonna do for a living. Took us 5 years but we got there. Record digging culture, sampling culture, album formatting (records over 10-11 songs were unheard of before this album), adding interludes, mammoth liner notes (definitely an influence there) its message (oh we so need this message now) the role of the “hype man” (psssh the invention of the hype man as a figure) making your parents record collection seeming new and exciting—-this album did so much man.
