“We see how they arrive. They arrive in deeply depressing conditions. But when they leave the center, like some did today, they were getting on a bus and you can see their faces reflecting joy and gratitude. The little ones embrace you and kiss you because we’ve taken them in. They are saying goodbye to a person they now love, a person who is now a new member of their family. How beautiful and blessed are we to know that we’ve given them belonging and now they can travel safe, with a little bit of food and the enthusiasm that they’ve spoken to their family... HOW BEAUTIFUL TO BE THAT PRESENCE OF HOPE FOR THEM...” ~Sister Norma Pimentel. It’s been an honor to meet this selfless human being. Sister Norma Pimentel heads the Catholic Charities RGV Respite Center in the border of McAllen TX. She, the staff and a group of volunteers are doing remarkable work. They are providing families with food, medical care, medicine, showers, clothes, legal support, bus fares so they can reunite with their family members in the US and so much more...most importantly they freely and constantly gift LOVE and BELONGING. You can donate to help this respite center buy all the things they need in order to help these families. The center is also trying to find a permanent home. A bigger space so they can house more refugees and have them spend the night there. I witnessed first hand the compassionate work this team is doing and it’s the very definition of what being a humanitarian is. Supporting Sister Norma and the center is a profound way to immediately impact these families in a positive way.
