These shots were taken by a woman named Kanoelani who I unexpectedly met on the beach down in Mexico and that happens to have the most exceptionally beautiful spirit.

She caught wind of my story from some of the @sima_surf summit guys and decided to shoot my whole session a La Fortuna that day.

.
She was so generous to offer to share the pics and explain that I inspired her and her boys that day but after I followed up with her I didn’t hear from her for weeks. Then just last night I got an email from her explaining that she’s been dealing with and even fighting for her life against some unexpected (and obviously quite serious) health issues.

It was such a real and raw email but so encouraging to me:

“I hate to say I am a negative Nancy at times, but my perspective was quite a bit different that day after having watched and met you, so I was feeling more thankful than sorry for the predicament I was in.”
.
.
That’s it, that’s the goods: PERSPECTIVE. No matter how hard life is there’s always some one that is struggling with something unfathomable to you. It was such a valuable email and reminder FOR ME to keep things in perspective.

We only met briefly but I’m beyond grateful to be connected in such a human way to a perfect stranger. I’m beyond blessed that I get to do what I love and in the process inspire others... we are all in this together. Keep fighting the good fight Kanoelani!!!
