The aviary world is rarely a quite and peaceful place, especially during the nesting season. Here is a carousel of photos and a video I shot in #Svalbard last week at a #kittiwake rookery, which is a massive nesting area. These nesting sights are highly competitive zones where birds are territorially fighting for space and stolen nesting material. In our short time here we watched hundreds of battles! A violent and raw display that these birds have been doing for millions of years, the natural world is a savage place. @andy_mann and I posted up to photograph the action side by side with some competition of our own, friendly of course, as we took photos of the action trying to out shoot each other. It’s something I’ve done with Andy countless times over the last decade, celebrating the photos we’re each taking, commiserating on the ones we missed and playfully provoking a competitiveness to get the shot.
