A #polarBear cub nipping at mom’s ankles playfully on the sea ice in north west #Spitsbergen, #Svalbard. Swipe to watch a short video of this adorable cub. It’s impossible to experience moments like this and not be moved by the power and beauty of nature. I’m just returning from a 10 day trip for @naturalworldsafaris exploring and photographing Svalbard’s archipelago. In our short time here we saw 38 Polar bears, hauls of walrus and countless birds. It was an experience I won’t soon forget. Here in #svalbard polar bears are explicitly protected by the government, something I was very happy to learn. It’s not an easy life being at the top of the food chain, most sow’s have 2 cubs meaning that it’s likely that this mother here may have already lost one. Hunting is hard, especially in the summer as we continue to loose more and more ice each year due to climate change. I’m grateful for these encounters on this trip and can’t wait to return to Svalbard again for more. @andy_mann @benjacksonnz @wikstrom_photography @pernillesoeegaarddk
