Check out the newest litter of mountain lion kittens ?? that researchers discovered at Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area (@santamonicamountainsnps) in #California. This group of four female kittens (named P-66 through P-69) were found in Simi Hills. This is the first den researchers have marked in Simi Hills, which is a critical habitat linkage between the Santa Monica Mountains and larger natural areas to the north. Biologists visited the den site while the mother (P-62) was away and took tissue samples, conducted a general health check, and marked the kittens with ear tags. The blue-eyed, spotted kittens weighed between 4-5 pounds and were around 4 1/2 weeks of age. #LosAngeles is one of only two megacities in the world (the other is Mumbai) that have big cats living within the city limits.
