Hi, I’m @adrianazehbrauskas and this is my last post on a series documenting the first moments of fatherhood in five countries across the world. Turkmenistan was the last of the five countries I visited - hosting one of the most extraordinary celebrations around birth that I have ever witnessed. I followed father, Eziz, 28, and mother, Nazik, 23, as they were leaving the hospital with their second child, a newborn baby boy called Abdylguly. Traditionally, men are responsible for bringing their child home after birth, an activity for which they spend lavishly: cars are decorated with balloons, stuffed animals, ribbons and banners. The baby is carried in a lace covered basket and dressed in white silk blankets. The mother receives flowers and wears her best dresses and jewellery. Family and friends are invited for the festive ritual, where proud fathers parade with their babies and photographers are on site ready to register every moment. The organisation of the celebration is the father’s responsibility. “It creates memories that you can look back on in years to come,” says Eziz proudly. “I haven’t slept in two weeks, I was so nervous. Now the baby has arrived we can celebrate and relax.” Eziz is an entrepreneur and owns a textile company. “When I come back from work I’m always anxious to see my baby. I rush into the house and my world shines again,” he said. “To raise a child with love and pay attention to their needs makes them more engaged in the world around them. Love is the key to bringing up children.” Tap link in bio for more info. © UNICEF/UN0209968/Zehbrauskas #EarlyMomentsMatter #FathersDay #EarlyChildhoodDevelopment #SuperDad #InstagramTakeover
