Rhinos get their name from the greek phrase meaning “nose-horned.” They are one of only five living species with an odd number of toes. Sadly, rhinos are frequently poached for their horns because some believe the horns, when ground up, can be consumed to cure ailments from fever to rheumatism. Science tells us horns are made up of keratin, the same substance as human toe nails, a protein not worth risking rhino lives over.
